Cerluten is the Khavinson brain peptide bioregulator (A-5), a natural extract complex from young animal cerebral cortex sold as a 60-capsule daily supplement. Each capsule contains 20mg of brain extract (pcc-05). It is the oral, non-synthetic brain product in the Khavinson line, distinct from Cortagen, the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro, and from Pinealon.
The cerebral cortex handles memory, attention and executive function, and Khavinson's group studied cortex peptides in three forms: the injectable extract Cortexin, oral extract capsules, and the synthetic peptide Cortagen. Published work: Cortagen changed expression of a defined set of genes in a microarray study (PubMed 15159690) and sped functional recovery of an injured sciatic nerve in rats (PubMed 11276314); short peptides raised expression of signalling molecules in neuronal cultures from young and old animals (PubMed 25257443) and stimulated serotonin expression in cortex cells (PubMed 24909721). Those are cell and animal studies of the synthetic peptides, not of this capsule. Matter's Cerluten is made in Germany in a GMP facility, with 20mg of extract per capsule as printed on the box.
Naming: the product id reads cortagen, but the box and the capsules are Cerluten. Cortagen is a synthetic four-amino-acid research peptide that Matter does not sell as capsules; Pinealon (Glu-Asp-Arg) is a different synthetic brain peptide, listed separately and coming soon. Cerluten is a dietary supplement, not a nootropic drug. Suggested use from the label: 2 capsules a day with food; one 60-capsule box is a 30-day course, repeated 2 to 3 times a year. The product id on this page still says cortagen from an earlier listing; the box and the capsules are Cerluten.
What does Cerluten contain?
Each capsule contains 20mg of cerebral cortex extract, labelled pcc-05, a low-molecular-weight peptide complex from young animal brain tissue. The other ingredients printed on Matter's bioregulator boxes are microcrystalline cellulose and a gelatin capsule, with an allergen statement on the back label. Check the Supplement Facts panel on your box for the exact wording.
Are bioregulators the same as peptides?
Bioregulators are a subclass of peptides: short, organ-specific peptides, usually two to four amino acids, taken as oral capsules. Research peptides such as BPC-157 or semaglutide are single synthetic molecules, usually injected, and Matter sells those for research use only. Cerluten is a bioregulator: a natural brain peptide complex sold as a dietary supplement.
How do you take Cerluten?
